The Bluetooth Menu on the phone should have a place for DEVICE NAME. You can change it to read HIS PHONE / HER PHONE and that is the device that SYNC will find if both of you have the same model of phone. The Phone model is the default name.

Post Re: Did Sync Update now Phone won't stay connected Via Bluetooth
I think I figured something out today. Don't know why it's happening, but I know how it's happening.

I have an iphone and this is what is happening. If I'm using the bluetooth connection to listen to the music on the iphone and shut the car off while the music is still playing (shut the car off radio continues to play, open the door and the system shuts down) the ipod will not connect the next time I start the car.

I know that bluetooth remains enabled on the iphone but the Sync system says "No bluetooth device present, I will try to connect one", but nothing happens. The system says it's trying, but it can not and will not connect.

What I discovered today is that if I go into the system menu of the Sync system, and turn off bluetooth and then turn it back on it works again. For what ever reason, when the ipod is playing and you shut the system down, Sync shuts down bluetooth. It says its on, but it isn't.

This isn't and ipod issue as I know that bluetooth is active on the phone. I don't know if the same thing happens if you are in the middle of a phone call, but I suspect that it may happen and may experiment to see if this triggers the same shut down.

Post Re: Did Sync Update now Phone won't stay connected Via Bluet
I just got a 2011 Flex a couple weeks ago. Just to start I'm not impressed by Microsoft or any of their products but, I thought I would give the Sync a try. I have a HTC Hero from Sprint and I have had little to no trouble with bluetooth on my Pioneer-F900BT receiver or Jawbone2 headset. When I get in the car it always links up. Now with the Flex my phone linked up the first time with no problem and I downloaded the address book successfully. The first few times I got in the car it linked up but after that I have not been able to get it to link up automatically. I found a work around and it is a pain. I have to turn bluetooth off on my phone and then turn it back on. Then I can hit the "phone" button on the dash and it will link up. I'm going in this Tuesday to the dealer to have them scan my system so that I can use the syncmyride website. There is some problem with all 2011 Flex cars and Sync. That is another can of worms that I don't need mention here. You would think that they would fix a known problem before they release a new years vehicle. I hope things improve after the dealer visit or Ford and Sync are going to get a thumbs down in a hurry.

Yikes! Sorry about the problems. That's always disappointing to have such high hopes for something and it not work right. Don't know if it will solve your problem but one piece of advice over on the syncmyride forums is to DISable the automatic phonebook download in Sync. That might helps.
PLEASE, it would be helpful to folks here if you DID mention what the problem is with the 2011s and Sync!

I've been happy with SYNC so far, impressed even. I downloaded the version checker and ran it successfully, I think. I was ready to install the 3.1 update (currently installed version is 3.01) but now I'm getting nervous. Perhaps i should leave well enough alone. I don't have Sirius activated so traffic update features won't do anything for me.

Do I brave the update?

I'm not going to. Things seem to be working well enough and Sync's own technical support told me to leave well enough alone.
I don't think I called about updating but the topic came up during our conversation. He didn't come right out and say, "don't install the update!", he just said that if the system seems to be working for you, leave well enough alone.

Just to note for iPhone 3G owners, I've had a lot of problems with my iPhone > SYNC connection (mainly the USB part) since the OS4 came out, and have had a lot of problems with the phone period (it'll freeze up, goes slower, etc.) since then, so personally, I wouldn't recommend upgrading it, but maybe it's just my phone....
