HELP! A/C Air Conditioning Issues - Dealer Says Normal
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!!
been in for service on this issue 5 times. they cannot fix it. latest lip service they are giving me is that it is normal.
apparently when you have the temp set at 60 degrees they claim it is normal for your temp to fluctuate 15+ degrees when on a lower fan speed and 8+ degrees when on a higher fan speed for approx 8-10 seconds. in my opinion, this fluctuation in temperature CANNOT be normal.
what i mean is that if i have the air on 60degrees blowing on fan speed of 3, i feel a burst of warmer air for 8-10 seconds then back to cold 60 degree air. then approximately 2 minutes later the whole thing is repeated. this continues to happen the entire time the air conditioning is on. and i am NOT using AUTO feature.
it is absolutely impossible that this is normal working conditions for an a/c. the dealer claims that ford says this is normal and will get me the paperwork stating there are variances in temperature.
do any of you have this issue?

I rarely use the auto feature and I have not experienced that (on either setting). Would be mighty upset if I did! Have you tried taking your car to a different dealership? The "it's normal" game is an insult Hope you get it resolved. Re: HELP! A/C Air Conditioning Issues - Dealer Says Normal
Doesn't sound unreasonable to me. The A/C system has lots of safety valves for pressure, evaporator temperature and such. If the system ran continuously it would freeze up the evaporator and then no air would come out at all.
I suspect that if you start using the Auto feature you'll actually find this less noticeable. Set it at 72 on auto and never touch it. Then the system can manage itself without the constraints you are putting on it. Remember that the temperature set point has absolutely nothing to do with the temperature of the air coming out of the vents. Air Conditioned air will always vary from about 45 - 55 degrees, that's just how the system works. The Auto setting lets the computer manage the cycling of the system and the fan speed to try to even out the flow as best it can. When you stick it on 60 and fix the fan speed, you've essentially tied the system's hands behind its back.
There are new, more sophisticated A/C compressors coming in the near future that will prevent this cycling, but not many of them are out in the market yet.

Got my side set for 21.5 and The Mrs has her side set to 22.5. We always leave it in Auto and let the car do the thinking.
Our Freestyle also had the Auto setting. I think it works great! No issues so far in either car.

Infiniti put a pretty snazzy AC unit in the new M.
I suggest the OP uses the manual settings if they want to keep the interior cold.

On our 3,500 mi. trip, we found that we had to set the Auto temp at least 2 deg higher than in our GM cars, the Flex A/C is that "GOOD"! Always use Auto - with outside air, unless in smoke or dust. Have manual air on 04 GTO as auto air wasn't offered... always miss it.

I guess we just haven't gotten used to "auto" mode yet. I've tried it a few times but keep going back to setting my temp and fan speed myself. Today I turned the fan on full speed for the first time and WHOA! This is going to be great on those 113 degree days! Re: HELP! A/C Air Conditioning Issues - Dealer Says Normal
Hi, I am new here as we just bought a 2009 FLEX today!! I found your problem a little funny as we had the exact same problem with our 2004 Isuzu Axiom that we just traded for our FLEX. The auto mode for our AC would just shut off at random times or would blow cold for a bit while we were using the heat. If the system shut down there was nothing we could do to get it going again. It just had to start on its own. Dealer could not replicate it. Never used the auto mode after that and did not have the problem anymore.
Just wanted to add it is not only the FLEX that have this issue with the AC auto mode - DH thinks it has to do with the climate control module, but we did not keep it long enough to have that replaced.
